A key A-road in the West Midlands will be closed for traffic all day after a large oil spill damaged the surface during rush hour.
The A46 has shut in Warwickshire after hydraulic fluid spilled onto the road this morning.
The southbound carriageway was closed at about 6am following the incident between the A439 (Marraway Roundabout) and A3400 (Stratford upon Avon).
As a result, the road surface suffered damage and needs repairing, which is likely to take all day, National Highways warned.
The area has heavy congestion, including the A439, which drivers are using as a diversion to travel south to Stratford-upon-Avon, traffic alerts show.
Drivers should ‘expect delays’ in the area and diversions have been put in place.
National Highways said: ‘Specialist contractors have attended and advised that a full carriageway resurface is required
‘The closure is expected to remain ongoing throughout the day.’
