
A man has been detained under the Mental Health Act after being found walking around the grounds of a school with no clothes on.
The man was spotted walking around the St Julian’s School playing field in Newport, Gwent, on Tuesday afternoon.
School staff phoned police at about 12.40pm and said they had spotted the man walking around the school grounds – but not inside any of the buildings.
While the man didn’t approach any children, he didn’t appear to be leaving the area.
Gwent Police arrested the man for exposure, and he has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.
A full statement from the force reads: ‘We received a call at about 12.40pm from St Julian’s School reporting a man was outside on the school grounds, not in school buildings, walking around naked.
‘He had not approached any of the children but was not leaving the area.
‘Officers attended and he was arrested for exposure. He has been detained under the mental health act and is now in the care of health services.
‘We are liaising with the school about the incident and our neighbourhood officers are speaking with staff to address concerns and provide additional support.’
St Julian’s School is an 11-18 secondary school in Newport with 1,428 pupils.
