Manchester United are considering a move for Arsenal and Liverpool target Hugo Ekitike as they look to bolster their attacking options, according to reports.

Despite Rasmus Hojlund finally ending his goal drought against Leicester City at the weekend, United are likely to seek attacking reinforcements when the window reopens in the summer.

Between them, Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have just six Premier League goals between them, with both failing to prove themselves as reliable goalscorers in Ruben Amorim’s side.

United have long admired Victor Gyokeres, who thrived under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, but the Swede is likely to seek a move to a Champions League club this summer.

Benjamin Sesko has also been mooted as a possibility, but Arsenal are said to be at the front of the queue to sign the talented young striker.

Victor Osimhen is also a name under consideration, but according to Florian Plettenberg, United are now also considering Eintracht Frankfurt forward Ekitike.

Having struggled at Paris Saint-German, the young French forward joined Frankfurt on a permanent last summer having initially impressed on loan at the Bundesliga club.

And the 22-year-old has gone from strength to strength this season, notching up four assists and 13 goals in 25 league appearances so far this campaign.

Such exploits have placed the Frenchman on United’s radar, but the Red Devils are likely to face a battle on their hands to acquire his services.

Reports last month suggested Arsenal are among the teams monitoring Ekitike’s progress and ‘appreciate his profile’, with the Gunners on the hunt for a centre-forward after missing out in January.

Liverpool and West Ham are also said to be in the running, with Frankfurt likely to demand a fee in the region of €80m (£66m) for the France Under-21 international.

Ekitike current contract at Deutsche Bank Park runs through to the summer of 2029.

United, however, may have to raise signigicant funds if a big-money move for another striker is to be sanctioned by the club ownership.

Academy graduates Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo could again be the subject of transfer speculation, especially after both were heavily linked with an exit in the January transfer window.
