‘Mosimoney’: Esteghlal fans mock Pitso Mosimane over salary dispute

Angry Esteghlal Football Club fans mocked South African coach Pitso Mosimane, giving him a nickname. The decorated coach left Esteghlal FC early this year following a salary dispute with management.

Indeed, it was a sad end to what promised to be a good match between a talented coach and an ambitious club.

When Pitso joined, the whole club moved, and he immediately brought good results to the team. Fans loved him, as they could see their club in a good direction.

Unfortunately, their time together could not go beyond 6 months.

PITSO MOSIMANE’S FAREWELL LETTER TO ESTEGHLAL

Under MT Sports Marketing & Management, Pitso revealed the details of his financial decision to leave the club.

MT Sports Marketing & Management revealed that Pitso and his technical team gave Esteghlal time to resolve the matter but failed.

“In good faith, Coach Pitso and his Technical team extended a 15-day deadline per the Fifa rules to allow the board to familiarise themselves with the situation and remedy the outstanding payments,” the statement reads.

“However, the club did not resolve the issue within the deadlines they set for themselves. Coach Pitso Mosimane and his technical team are still owed more than two months’ salaries,” the statement continues.

Despite giving his side of the story, some fans misunderstood Pitso Mosiname, and they trolled him on Instagram, giving him the nickname ‘Mosimoney’.

PITSO’S SUCCESS STORY

It all started in 2004 when Pitso lifted the SAA Super Eight Cup with South African side SuperSport United. The following year, he also won the Nedbank Cup before he moved to Mamelodi Sundowns.

At Sundowns, Pitso made his name among the best coaches in South Africa, winning 5 Premier Soccer League cups.

He also made his name on the international stage, winning the CAF Champions League 2016. He moved to Al Ahly and won many trophies, including the Egyptian Premier League in 2020.

As if that was not enough, Pitso went to Al-Ahli and won the Saudi First Division League in 2023 before Esteghlal FC.

Indeed, failing to win anything and leaving before his contract expired frustrated the fans. They wanted Pitso to stay and win with them.
