Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela once made an unforgettable promise to Amakhosi‘s former star George Lebese.
GEORGE LEBESE ON STEVE KOMPHELA PROMISE AT KAIZER CHIEFS
Speaking to Robert Marawa on Marawa Sports Worldwide, the 36-year-old former player was asked how his relationship was with Komphela at Amakhosi. Lebese simply answered: “It is quite funny because when coach Steve came in, I was one of the players he called to the office and he told me how he would like to play, how he’d like me to play and I would be the main part of his team that season,” Lebese said to Marawa, as per Hollywoodbets.
“I don’t know if he was joking, but he told me that ‘If you scored a certain amount of goals, I am going to give you my car’, the Ranger Rover… that’s what he said. It was less than 15 goals, about 13 goals or something like that. I asked him ‘Are you sure because it’s a whole car?’, and he said yes. But how am I going to get the car if I am not playing?” the former Kaizer Chiefs attacker added.
“Then things turned sour and I don’t know what happened to be honest. I was not playing and I was too far from [from that target] but I was scoring, I scored headers which is not my strongest point but I scored because I wanted the car,” Lebese added.
KAIZER CHIEFS GOALKEEPER ON DUTY WITH RWANDA
Kaizer Chiefs have released a list of players for the FIFA international break.
Despite missing action for Amakhosi since October 2024, Amakhosi goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has been called up to represent Rwanda in the latest FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. The Wasps will welcome the mighty Super Eagles of Nigeria on Friday before welcoming Lesotho in the same Amohoro Stadium next Tuesday.
