Orlando Pirates welcomed a new face to their training ground on Friday with an eye on next season already.
Pirates didn’t sign a single player during the January transfer window, but that’s already changed heading to the next one.
Pirates offloaded three players in January
It is no secret that Pirates will be looking to bolster their attack next season and targets have been mooted. It is thought that the technical team have looked at the wide areas as one department that needs strengthening. This season alone, they have seen new R10 million signing Gilberto flop and loaned back to Petro de Luanda. They also loaned out Katlego Otladisa to Sekhukhune United who want him permanently.
It is no secret that Pirates will be looking to bolster their attack next season, especially their strikers. Now according to iDiski Times, they have already made early headway in the process with a new face at training. That in the shape of Zambian striker Andrew Phiri.
Phiri training with the Buccaneers
“Orlando Pirates have invited highly-rated Zambia international striker Andrew Phiri for a two-week assessment. iDiski Times can confirm Phiri started training with the Buccaneers this week, during the FIFA International break and he’s impressed so far, but no decision has been made on the player as of yet. Sources have confirmed he has a release clause which was agreed with FC MUZA of around R1.25-million, which could be activated should the Soweto giants been keen on pursuing his services.” Wrote the publication.
Phiri has a burgeoning reputation in Zambia having played for all of their junior national teams. He has also recently graduated to their senior team. Having scored 33 goals in their topflight, he would clearly be a top prospect for Pirates too should he sign.
Would he be a good signing?
