New Kaizer Chiefs ‘sheriff’ revealed

Kaizer Chiefs have several new senior figures in their dressing room. Who’s the ‘sheriff’ and will he bring them success?

There’s a new sheriff in town

KwaMashu-born Thabo Cele, a recruit in the Chiefs engine room, shared Inacio Miguel’s story on Instagram and added some Portuguese flavour to his caption. “Xerife”, the word he added to the post, means sheriff in Portuguese, a language both players speak fluently. Miguel has become a mainstay in the heart of defence for Chiefs under Nasreddine Nabi, forming a partnership with 22-year-old Rushwin Dortley. Although Angolan star Miguel has served two separate suspensions, he’s also skippered Chiefs four times while Yusuf Maart wasn’t in the side. Nabi must chop and change his side again.

Sheriff Miguel to captain Kaizer Chiefs against Chippa

Meanwhile, with Maart suspended for the Chiefs’ Round of 16 Nedbank Cup clash against Chippa, loan signing Njabulo Blom could come into the side after being named on the substitutes’ bench in the team’s 1-0 success away at the Winelands side. Also, new signing Thabo Cele should retain his place in the engine room. Playmaker Mduduzi Shabalala will almost certainly start too after being a substitute against Stellies.

Predicted Chiefs starting XI vs Chippa

Bvuma; Frosler, Miguel, Dortley, Ditlhokwe; Cele, Blom; Lilepo, Shabalala, Sirino; Morris.

Can Chiefs afford Salum’s wages?

27-year-old Attacking midfielder Feisal Salum will not be extending his contract with Azam FC in his homeland. The goal-scoring schemer has been persistently linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs. Furthermore, the player could move on a free transfer but wouldcommand hefty wages and a significant signing-on fee.

“Feisal Salum has made his decision and informed the club that he will not extend his contract,” Africafoot.com confirmed.
