Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has overtaken Ruud Krol as the club’s longest-serving mentor in the PSL era.
On Tuesday, Riveiro led Pirates for the 120th time across all competitions against Stellenbosch FC.
Unfortunately, Riveiro could not celebrate this milestone with a win as his Bucs charges could only manage a 0-0 draw.
What’s impressive, though, is the fact that Riveiro has a better winning percentage compared to Krol.
Furthermore, he has won more domestic trophies than his Dutch counterpart could during his three-year stay with Pirates.
Nonetheless, the only major trophy that appears to be eluding the Spaniard is the league.
After coming second twice in a row, expectations were that Riveiro and Pirates would push Mamelodi Sundowns this season.
And the Soweto giants started the campaign with a bang, giving almost everyone hope that they could win it.
However, with an average of 10 league games left, Pirates find themselves 18 points behind leaders Sundowns.

RIVEIRO SETS NEW ORLANDO PIRATES RECORD
Riveiro has not even completed his three-year stint with Pirates but he’s already coached more games than Krol.
The 49-year-old has been in charge of 120 games for Pirates while Krol took charge of 119 competitive matches for the club.
Of the 120 matches, Riveiro has won 74, drawn 23 and lost 23 while Krol won 60, drew 38 and lost 21 of his 119 games.
Riveiro has five trophies to his name – won the MTN8 title thrice and Nedbank Cup twice while Krol won a treble in his final season with Pirates.
And Krol’s treble consisted of the MTN8, the league and the Nedbank Cup titles in a single season.
