Orlando Pirates legend Happy Jele has admitted that Thabiso Sesane’s performance has surprised him this season.
The 23-year-old has been one of the Buccaneers’ best players this season before an unfortunate injury occurred in February. The team has since struggled in defence since his injury, highlighting the defender’s impact.
Sesane has been solid for Orlando Pirates
“Sesane has developed so much, I know him since he was promoted to the first team, many others know him now in the last 12 months [he’s stepped up], he’s been there for a long time and the team knew he was a great player,” Jele told iDiski Times.
Jele said Orlando Pirates saw potential in Sesane, hence they loaned him several times.
“They wanted to build up and that’s why he had to go on loan and come back, they saw the potential he had, me as a senior player at the time; I told him when the day comes, you will grab the chance.
“I was once in his shoes – when I arrived at Pirates, I didn’t play for two or three seasons, learning, when I got an opportunity, Seema left, Tonic left, it’s when I raised my hand and started to play.
“So even him, I left the team, some players got injured and he’s raised his hand to say I’m ready now after three seasons of not playing. The way he’s doing it’s surprised me as well, he’s doing something fabulous,” Jele added.
Sesane has been ruled out after suffering a ruptured tendon during Orlando Pirates’ hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune United last month.
