Orlando Pirates registered an important 1-0 win away to MC Alger in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarterfinals on Tuesday.
As a result, Pirates put one foot into the semifinals of this year’s CAF Champions League.
A draw in the return leg next week will be enough for the Buccaneers to advance to their first ever semifinals since 2013.
And what is impressive about Pirates’ run this season is that they are the only unbeaten team left in the competition.
All the other seven remaining teams suffered defeats en-route the quarterfinals.
ORLANDO PIRATES’ UNBEATEN RUN IN CAFCL
Orlando Pirates’ started away to Disciples in the second round of the CAF Champions League where they drew 0-0.
They then hammered the same opponents 4-0 in the return leg which was played at Orlando Stadium.
The Soweto giants then faced Jwaneng Galaxy whom they beat 2-0 in Botswana and 1-0 in the reverse fixture to advance to the group stages.
They were then pitted alongside CR Belouizdad, Stade d’Abidjan and Al Ahly .
Pirates beat CR Belouizdad 2-1 away and home, drew 0-0 with Al Ahly visiting them before beating them 2-1 in Cairo.
Against Stade d’Abidjan, Pirates drew 0-0 away and thumped them 3-0 at the Orlando Stadium in the return leg.
They have now added another win; a 1-0 victory away to MC Alger to keep their unbeaten record intact.
Overall, Pirates have played 11 CAF Champions League matches so far, recording EIGHT wins and THREE draws.
They are also yet to taste defeat away from home so far this season.
