Orlando Pirates have been handed a lifeline after TS Galaxy’s victory over Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Buccaneers lie nine points behind league leaders Masandawana but have the opportunity to close the gap to three thanks to having a couple of games in hand – Sundowns have played sixteen games compared to Pirates’ fourteen.
Mega-money move rejected
According to reports, Egypt’s Zamalek SC submitted an R25.8 million bid for starlet Relebohile Mofokeng, but Orlando Pirates rejected the offer.
Bafana head coach Hugo Broos believes this will be the 20-year-old’s last season in the PSL amid heavy interest up North:
“Talking about Mofokeng, I just hope that he makes the right decisions. And that he is not going to a team where he won’t play,” Broos stated to iDiski Times.
“I see all the things around, Barcelona and Rangers and… (sighs) I’m a little bit afraid. I just hope that the people around make the choice of the best sportive solution and not the best financial solution.”
“Okay, I think his parents want the best for him, that’s for sure. But there is another guy who wants to win a lot of money also, but that’s the problem. But ok, let’s hope, maybe I talked too soon about that,
“We’ll see. I think in June, Rele will not be a player of Orlando Pirates anymore, but a good choice is very important.”
Ndah update
Orlando Pirates were dealt a big blow in the build-up to the Mamelodi Sundowns game, losing key defender Thabiso Sesane to injury – the 24-year-old ruptured his tendon against Sekhukhune United.
According to reports, the Buccaneers, who relied on Tapelo Xoki in the Sundowns game, are speeding up Olisa Ndah’s recovery to fill this void. The Nigerian hasn’t featured since September.
Riveiro speaks after Sundowns game
Following Jose Riveiro’s heaviest defeat this season at the hands Mamelodi Sundowns, the Portuguese coach defended his line-up saying, “Kabelo was helping us a lot on the ball, always giving us extra time on the ball to get organised. In the second half, he was the one giving us balance in midfield,
“Even in our defence; winning duels, helping centre-backs. Sometimes our eyes [tell us that] Makhaula is more defensive and Kabelo is more offensive, but in this team, everyone is defending when we don’t have the ball and we all try to attack.”
