Orlando Pirates have triggered two additional years on Monnapule Saleng’s contract, tying him to his R70,000 per week salary.
The former PSL Player of the Season hasn’t featured for Orlando Pirates since December 7 due to salary demands the club refuses to meet. This latest move by the Buccaneers only adds insult to injury.
“He’s not happy with how he has been treated by Pirates,” a source revealed. “He feels he deserves better, especially considering what he has done for the club. Even this season, he was performing well before everything changed. He just wants a fair deal from Pirates, that’s all.”
Two new targets
According to reports, Orlando Pirates are eyeing Stellenbosch defenders Thabo Moloisane and Olivier Toure.
“As far as defenders are concerned, Pirates’ main target is Thabo [Moloisane], and that’s why they are set to table an offer for him,” a source confirmed.
“They are looking at strengthening the central defence as they are looking at having a strong backline next season where they will compete in almost all the competitions, including the CAF Champions League,” they added.
“Moloisane has grown as a player. He is playing in Africa with Stellenbosch and Pirates are looking at that as an advantage to sign him. You know the club is also looking at right back and left back”.
Regarding Orlando Pirates’ interest in Toure, “he is still on the club’s [Orlando Pirates’] radar, and it’s just a matter of when the club will be taking the interest forward by making a formal offer,
“If you look around the league, you will notice that he is one of the reliable and consistent defenders.”
