Orlando Pirates transfer wrap: Josephs, Benni, Appollis, Basadien

Today’s Orlando Pirates transfer wrap involves Benni McCarthy, Moeneeb Josephs and in-demand winger Oswin Appollis.

Josephs wants Appollis and Basadien at Orlando Pirates

According to former Bafana and Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, the Sea Robbers should prioritise moves for Stellenbosch left-back Fawaaz Basadien and Polokwane City’s winger Oswin Appollis

“If you look at Appollis and Basadien, I think they can be quality signings for Orlando Pirates, which is competing on the African continent [CAF Champions League],” Josephs said on the Soccer Beat podcast, as quoted by FARPost.

Benni’s legacy

Benni wasn’t at Orlando Pirates for a long time, but he was certainly with the Buccaneers for a good time. His best years as a footballer were spent in Europe, but his time with Orlando Pirates was decorated with plenty of silverware, punctuated by a stunning treble in 2012. He scored a brace in a memorable 3-2 win over Kaizer Chiefs in that campaign. The new Kenya manager is arguably South Africa’s finest ever footballer.
