Orlando Pirates are back in action this weekend against Baroka in the Nedbank Cup match.
Having humbled 4-1 by rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in a Betway Premiership clash, the Buccaneers will look for a quick response on Saturday.
Heading into the match, Pirates were just six points behind the Brazilians, knowing that a victory would bring them three points closer with a game in hand. Unfortunately for Jose Riveiro’s men, Sundowns proved to be too strong, claiming all three points at Loftus Versfeld.
The 4-1 loss was Orlando Pirates’ biggest defeat of the season and may have all but ended their title charge. With nine points separating them and Downs, it seems unlikely for them to catch the high-flying Brazilians.
Luckily for the Sea Robbers, there is still the CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup to play for in the next three months.
When are Orlando Pirates playing Baroka?
The Buccaneers host Baroka in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 this Saturday afternoon at the Orlando Stadium. Kick-off for the Nedbank Cup clash is scheduled for 15:00.
Although Bakgakga are playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Pirates know the Limpopo-based side very well. It was Baroka who denied the Buccaneers the Telkom Knockout Cup back in 2018 winning the trophy on penalties.
This time around Orlando Pirates means business. They have won five trophies in the past three seasons and have not lost a domestic final since that Baroka defeat in 2018. The Sea Robbers are the defending champions and at home, they should easily beat the team from Ga-Mphahlele near Lebowakgomo.
