Orlando Pirates: Will Monnapule Saleng play again?

Orlando Pirates fans have all but lost hope with Monnapule Saleng, who is nearing four months of exile. Signs calling for his return were abundant during their latest outing against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The dynamic winger started the season in scintillating fashion, so much so that he was an early frontrunner for PSL Player of the Season, which seems to be now firmly in Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s hands.

Salary demands Orlando Pirates refuse to succumb to have derailed the once prosperous relationship, putting the 27-year-old’s Sowetan future in jeopardy. Many believe December 7 will be the last time he steps onto the pitch as an Orlando Pirates player.

It’s hard to imagine the relationship rekindling if one party refuses to budge, making any happy outcome unlikely and inevitably leading to his exit.

Riveiro to leave at the end of the season?

Jose Riveiro, whose contract expires in June, remains vague about his plans for next season. Orlando Pirates tabled a fresh three-year deal at the beginning of the current season but were told they would have to wait until after the campaign for his decision.

“There is an offer for the coach to continue for another three years, but he has asked to wait until the end of the season. His main wish is to win the league, and if that happens, he may leave because he misses home,” a source revealed.

“The league title may decide the coach’s future. That’s what’s believed as things stand. Nothing has been agreed upon because the coach hasn’t made up his mind,

“He has made it clear that he misses home and family. And will only consider his future at the end of the season. However, the club has already opened talks with his representatives, hoping for the best outcome.”
