Ouch! Mason shares his biggest regret from Love Is Blind and it’s about Madison

If he could do Love Is Blind season eight all over again, Mason Horacek would probably force himself to see Madison Errichiello’s obvious “red flags” much sooner.

In the earliest episodes of season eight, Madison, Mason and Meg Fink were involved in perhaps the biggest anticlimax of the season. Mason’s indecision subsequently left him single, that was, until he rocked up to a group date with noneother than Meg on his arm! Not to brag, but I totally called it.

Though Madison seems to very much be in Mason’s rear-view mirror, in a new interview with PEOPLE he shed light on what he didn’t get to see in the pods.

Love Is Blind’s Mason wishes he’d seen the red flags sooner

Mason

During the pods segment of Love Is Blind, Mason was very much Natalie Imbruglia as he was torn between Madison and Meg. He seemed to have a bond with both women, but Madison inevitably pulled away from the relationship to be with Alex Brown. Ironically, she soon split with him too.

Reflecting on that “Catastrophe” era, he told PEOPLE: “There’s a lot that I look back on watching it now where I really wish I would’ve addressed the red flags that I saw when I was dating Madison. I chose to ignore them and just kind of got wrapped up in my feelings and went with what I felt at the time.

“If I hadn’t ignored those red flags, I feel like I would’ve ended up in a better situation instead of the catastrophe that we all witnessed.

I think we all know what that better situation was – an engagement to Meg!

Mason said he failed to learn from past mistakes

Speaking about previous relationships, Mason explained how he would often ignore red flags. Obviously, this landed him in “more drama” and “difficult situations”, and while he hoped to break that cycle, Love Is Blind season eight proved to be more of the same.

He said: “I came to the show to avoid something like that, but I just went right back into my old ways, which is very disappointing and heartbreaking for me to watch that back. It just sucks when it’s one of the biggest world stages that you have to fumble the ball and learn in that aspect. But now I’ll never forget the lesson.”

A proposal wasn’t in the cards for Mason but it wasn’t a complete loss because he did find companionship in the form of Alex Brown. Despite Madison’s meddling, Mason felt “completely backed up” by Alex who tried to offer another perspective to an unsympathetic Madison.

“I felt like he had my back and he told me after we got done filming that that had happened,” he added. “But watching it back, I didn’t know the extent or the severity or the tension that was actually in the room and being able to watch it back was like, wow. He really did something brave and uncomfortable just to defend me. So I just have mad respect for him and it made me really, really value him.”

Are Madison and Mason still friends?

Madison

When the unlucky cast members arrived at a group date, Meg and Mason were practically glued to one another and Madison mostly kept to herself. As it turns out, that’s because they hadn’t spoken since the split.

Speaking about the state of their relationship now, Mason said: “After Madison broke up with me, that was essentially the last time I spoke to her for a long time because I knew who she was at that point,” he says. “It felt like a breakup where she was trying to hurt me and I just did not need to associate with someone like that. So kept my distance after that.”
