According to Transparency International’s latest report, Pakistan’s ranking on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) has dropped by two spots from 133 in 2023 to 135 in 2024.
This change reflects a decrease in Pakistan’s CPI score from 29 points out of 100 in 2023 to 27 points in 2024.
The CPI assesses public sector corruption perceptions across countries using a scale of zero (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
Pakistan fell from the 133rd position in 2023 to the 135th position out of 180 countries in 2024.
In a statement, Transparency International Pakistan clarified that the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) is published annually by Transparency International Berlin, and TIP plays no role in data collection or the calculation of a country’s score.
TIP Chairperson Justice (retd) Zia Perwez stated that in the 2024 CPI, the scores of all regional countries, except Oman, China, Turkey, and Mongolia, have declined.
He further highlighted that Pakistan’s CPI 2024 score dropped by 2 points, from 29 in 2023 to 27, while its ranking fell from 133 to 135 out of 180 countries.
“The decline across the region indicates that Pakistan is among the countries resisting the overall downward trend,” the retired judge remarked.
Transparency International emphasizes that effective governance and law enforcement are crucial for improving these rankings. Despite regional trends showing declines, Pakistan is noted as holding up relatively well compared to other countries experiencing significant drops
