In the first T20I of the five-match series between New Zealand and Pakistan, the Black Caps secured a decisive nine-wicket victory over the Green Shirts.
Pakistan, under the leadership of newly appointed captain Salman Agha, struggled to post a competitive total, ultimately being dismissed for a meagre 91 runs at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Sunday.
This marked their lowest T20 score in New Zealand, surpassing their previous record of 101 all out in Wellington in 2016.
The collapse was precipitated by New Zealand’s formidable fast bowlers, Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy. Jamieson claimed three of the first four wickets, finishing with impressive figures of 3-8 from four overs. Duffy, meanwhile, secured career-best T20 figures of 4-14 from 3.4 overs, effectively dismantling Pakistan’s batting lineup.
Khushdil Shah was the standout performer for Pakistan, scoring 32 runs off 30 balls, including three sixes. However, his efforts were insufficient to salvage the innings, as only three Pakistani batsmen managed to reach double figures.
New Zealand’s chase was swift and efficient, with opener Tim Seifert leading the way by scoring 44 runs off 29 balls. Finn Allen and Tim Robinson completed the chase with an unbroken partnership, securing victory in just 10.1 overs.
The second match of the series is scheduled to take place in Dunedin on Tuesday.
