The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to attend a parliamentary meeting on national security, scheduled for Tuesday at the National Assembly Hall in Islamabad.
PTI’s central spokesperson, Sheikh Waqas Akram, said that the party would attend the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting.
This meeting, convened by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, aims to address the recent surge in terrorist attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
As reported, the PTI plans to raise the issue of restrictions on meetings with its leader, Imran Khan, during the session.
The meeting will include a comprehensive briefing on the country’s security situation by military leadership and participation from cabinet members. Tight security arrangements are in place, with law enforcement agencies on alert. The media will not be allowed access to the parliament building, and entry will be restricted to those with special invitations.
“The session will meet under his chairmanship and entail a comprehensive briefing on the country’s security situation to the committee members,” according to a press release issued by the National Assembly Secretariat.
It added that the military leadership would also brief the committee members on the current security situation. Furthermore, cabinet members would also participate in the meeting.
This gathering comes after significant incidents, including the hijacking of the Jaffar Express train in Balochistan, which resulted in a two-day rescue operation and at least 31 casualties. The government is also considering a major operation against terrorist groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army.
