Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra has issued a defamation notice to former party member Sher Afzal Marwat, demanding Rs1 billion in damages for alleged false accusations of corruption.
The notice was served after Marwat made claims during two televised talk shows on March 11, 2025, that Jhagra had embezzled Rs36 billion from a pension fund and purchased properties in Hayatabad and Islamabad using illicit funds.
Jhagra’s legal counsel, Advocate Ali Gohar Durrani, described Marwat’s accusations as baseless, malicious, and defamatory. The notice asserts these claims lack factual basis and violate Pakistan’s Defamation Ordinance, 2002.
The notice demands that Marwat cease making further defamatory remarks, issue a public apology through TV channels and social media, retract his statements, clarify the misinformation publicly, and pay Rs1 billion in compensation for reputational and professional damages.
This legal action comes amid growing tensions within PTI. Marwat was recently expelled from the party by PTI founder Imran Khan due to his controversial remarks at a rally in Swabi, where he criticized alleged election rigging and was involved in a heated exchange with another PTI leader.
Marwat has frequently been at odds with PTI’s leadership and has openly criticized party decisions.
