Reggae legend Cocoa Tea best known for hit 90s song Riker’s Island dies aged 65

ICONIC Jamaican singer-songwriter Cocoa Tea, best known for his 90s hit song Riker’s Island, has died aged 65.

The reggae singer, born Colvin Scott, passed away early on Tuesday morning at a hospital in Florida, US, after suffering a cardiac arrest.

His wife Malvia Scott told the Jamaica Gleaner: “I got a call early this morning to say that he had been transferred from the facility to the hospital which is like five minutes away because he was vomiting.

“He was initially diagnosed with lymphoma in 2019, but for the last six months he was also struggling with pneumonia.”

She confirmed the veteran singer died at 4.46am on Tuesday morning at the hospital in Broward, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
