Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) has made an emotional decision regarding her future, following a conversation with Brenda Collins (Nichola McAuliffe) in EastEnders.
Poor Son’ has had a pretty rough old year, having been imprisoned for the murder of Brenda’s daughter Debbie.
As viewers of the BBC soap saw, it was in fact her twisted fiancé Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) – Debbie’s husband – who had committed the dastardly act.
With her behind bars, he became fearful of his colossal secret unfolding, and subsequently held her sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) hostage in a storage lock up.
Later, when Sonia was found not guilty, Bianca escaped her confines and returned to Albert Square to tell-all. Unfortunately, Reiss rushed off into the dead of the night and looked set to evade justice once again.
The story came to a head during the show’s big 40th anniversary celebrations last month, when he arrived back in Walford for one final showdown.
Bianca chased after him, and as he swerved his car to avoid hitting Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), he crashed into The Queen Vic pub and caused a catastrophic explosion that took the life of Sonia’s ex-husband Martin Fowler (James Bye).
Sonia herself was trapped, and in labour with Reiss’ baby.

As he began to approach her, he was crushed by a bath that fell through the ceiling. Deserved.
Since then she’s struggled with the prospect of facing single motherhood, and has repeatedly clashed with Bianca.
In tonight’s episode, the sisters sat down for an emotional conversation and Sonia admitted that she felt like she was the one responsible for everything that had happened.
She had welcomed him into her home, into the lives of her family and friends, and had so desperately wanted another baby that he took desperate action by murdering Debbie to claim her life insurance.

To make matters worse, she’s under the impression that all of her neighbours feel exactly the same.
Despite some reassurance from Bianca, who wanted her to attend Reiss’ funeral, the pair squabbled once again.
Sonia wasn’t sure whether she was ready to face up to the service, and when baby Julia began to cry, she violently smashed a picture of Reiss on the floor.
Suddenly, Brenda arrived and apologised for her tough treatment when she believed that she was Debbie’s killer.

The hard-faced mother softened, and told Sonia that they all had played a part in allowing Reiss to be so cruel. She had seen the darkness in his eyes the moment Debbie had introduced him to her.
Shockingly, Sonia then admitted that she missed the version of Reiss she has in her head, and wishes she could go back to when they were happier – or be buried next to him.
After a pep talk from Brenda, she approached Bianca with the prospect that they should attend the funeral after all, to finally get some closure.
Will Sonia ever be able to move forward in life?
