Guys, people are just realising the most insane pop culture crossover ever as we all watch The White Lotus season three. And whilst it’s pretty accepted by now that this season is absolutely not slapping as hard as the iconic previous two, I think the universe is in agreement over how joyous it is having a talent like Parker Posey back in a big show being her usual iconic herself. It’s great seeing quite an underrated actress get some glory again. In The White Lotus, Parker Posey plays Victoria Ratliff – married to Jason Isaacs’ character Timothy Ratliff. The two have two songs, Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Saxon and then Sam Nivola playing Lochlan. But Parker Posey has an off-screen connection to Sam Nivola that has The White Lotus fans losing their minds, and it’s all linking back to Scream 3.
For those uninitiated in legendary cinema, Parker Posey is absolutely beloved for her role in Scream 3 – and this The White Lotus connection with Sam Nivola honestly just makes the Posey Renaissance even sweeter.
So there’s this amazing web of connection…
Right, so in The White Lotus season three Parker Posey and Sam Nivola play mother and son Victoria and Lachlan Ratliff. But Sam Nivola, one of the show’s many nepo baby actors, actually has a famous mother.
Sam Nivola is the child of British actress Emily Mortimer. Emily Mortimer has been booked and busy her whole career, but one film she’s really well known for is Scream 3. So that means that both Sam Nivola’s on screen mum and his real life mum have a connection to that film! Wild!
If you’ve never seen Scream 3, it has a film within a film premise and sees Ghostface killing off stars of the latest Stab film. Parker Posey is the Stab film’s version of Gale Weathers, played famously by Courteney Cox. Emily Mortimer stars as Angelina in Scream 3 – and her character is playing the lead of Sidney Prescott. Obviously the Stab equivalent version of the Sidney Prescott final girl played by Neve Campbell.
Truly a moment to nerd out over for any pop culture losers, if you’re anything like me.
