Tributes paid to Leeds Beckett graduate who died in car crash

Tributes have been paid to a Leeds Beckett graduate who died in a car crash.

Harrison Harvey, 25, had just landed his dream job as a graphic designer before the fatal collision.

On Sunday 9th February, Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene of a pedestrian collision with a blue BMW. The incident occurred on the A179 in Hartlepool, Teesside Live reports.

The Leeds graduate’s cousin, Michael Wanley, described him as someone who “always had a smile on his face”.

Harrison completed a degree in graphic design at Leeds Beckett University. He had struggled to get a job in the profession until two weeks before his death, when he landed a role with Paul Gough Media.

Harrison was training for the Great North Run to raise vital money for the Alzheimer’s Society, which was a charity close to his heart.

Michael has since set up a GoFundMe for Harrison, which saw more than £8,000 raised in a single day.

Paying tribute, Michael said: “He was just so positive, he always had a smile on his face. He had a bubbly personality and it’s been so nice for the family to see all the lovely comments about him. He was so gentle and cheerful.

“Harrison helped out and stepped up with his mam Cheryl so much when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2018 – he was only 18 himself when she was diagnosed.”

Harrison, who was nicknamed ‘H’ by his dad, John, was the youngest of two siblings.

His family said he always looked up to his big sister Chloe, 28, and “wanted to follow in her footsteps”.

Michael said the family have been overwhelmed by the fundraising.

They wanted the funeral to be yellow themed to reflect Harrison’s shining personality, and planned to use the money rasied from the GoFundMe for a memorial.

Harrison used to regularly run in Ward Jackson Park and the family have expressed how they would like a bench or a plaque where he can be remembered.

Cleveland Police previously released a tribute from the family, which said: “Harrison was a beloved son, brother, and friend to many.

“He was a bubbly, budding graphic designer with the brightest future ahead of him. He is very loved and will be dearly missed.”
