In a tragic incident at Glenwood High in Durban on Tuesday, a 15-year-old schoolboy passed away after collapsing as he was warming up for a hockey game.
The KZN Department of Education said that the young pupil was preparing to play a hockey match, but had felt discomfort while participating in a ‘warm-up soccer game’ when he requested to be substituted and ‘stepped aside for some air’.
Tragically, he collapsed and despite tireless efforts of paramedics to resuscitate him, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A letter to parents and the Glenwood Community from the school stated: “We appreciate and understand that there will be much speculation and potential for misinformation at this traumatic time, and therefore wanted to confirm that there had been an incident where a boy had collapsed following an activity and despite efforts from Glenwood staff, ALS paramedics, he unfortunately passed away.”
