U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that it will be held directly responsible for any further attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on U.S. and foreign ships in the Red Sea. This warning comes amid escalating tensions and recent airstrikes by the U.S. against Houthi targets in Yemen.
The Houthis have been conducting maritime attacks in the Red Sea, targeting ships linked to Israel and disrupting global trade. These actions are reportedly in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has faced blockades by Israel.
The U.S. has launched significant airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen, resulting in dozens of casualties. These strikes are part of a broader effort to protect maritime routes and deter future attacks.
Trump emphasized that every attack by the Houthis will be viewed as an attack by Iran itself, implying that Iran will face severe consequences for any future incidents.
“Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of Iran, and Iran will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
The U.S. has threatened to use “overwhelming lethal force” if the Houthis continue their aggression, with no guarantees that the response will be limited.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed on Monday that they had attacked a U.S. aircraft carrier group twice within 24 hours, describing it as retaliation for deadly American airstrikes.
Initially, the Houthis stated they had launched 18 missiles and a drone at the “aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman and its escorting warships” in the Red Sea. Hours later, they claimed to have carried out a second attack.
The U.S. has yet to comment on these alleged strikes.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s health ministry reported that the death toll from the first U.S. airstrikes under President Donald Trump had risen to 53, including five children.
