Hollywood actress Candice Bergen’s husband Marshall Rose has died at the age of 88.
The real estate businessman and philanthropist, who married Bergen in 2000, died at home peacefully in New York on Saturday, surrounded by family.
His cause of death was complications from Parkinson’s disease, with his obituary in The New York Times praising his ‘many years of extraordinary strength and resilience’.
Rose is survived by his wife, 78, as well as his children Wendi and Andrew; his step-daughter Chloe; and his grandchildren Alexander, Clio, Ell, Milo, Arthur, and Alice.
Sex and the City star Bergen, who’s also appeared in movies like Miss Congeniality and Book Club, was previously married to director Louis Malle until his death from cancer in 1995.
They shared daughter Chloe, 39, together.

Rose was born in Brighton Beach, New York, in 1937, studying law at NYU before embarking on a career as a real estate developer, civic leader and advisor to non-profit institutions.
The Georgetown Company, which he founded in 1978, oversaw the development of properties including Frank Gehry’s IAC building and the renovation of Madison Square Garden.
He was most proud of his 30-year tenure on the board of the New York Public Library, with family asking for a donation to the institution in lieu of flowers – which will be earmarked for its adult literacy projects across the city.
Rose’s obituary remembers him as a ‘dedicated father and grandfather’, as well as ‘a doting dogfather’ to his goldendoodle Jerry, while praising his ‘legacy of fierce compassion, stubborn persistence, and commitment to cheering on the Knicks’.

‘His wisdom, strength, and generosity of spirit will be remembered by the countless people whose lives he touched,’ it added.
Bergen referenced their close bond and loving relationship in a 2015 interview with former Miss Congeniality co-star Sandra Bullock.
‘I’m not that ambitious. I’m always grateful when I get offered something that engages me, it’s for the right amount of time, and I don’t have to leave my husband for more than a week or two. That’s really all I ask,’ she told her for Interview magazine.
She also revealed that she shot the popular comedy film with Bullock, 60, just after wedding Rose, and instead of their honeymoon together, with the Oscar-winner calling the newlyweds ‘the sweetest thing’.

‘He was so demonstrative with you. He was, like, touching your face, saying goodbye or something, and the affection, the sweetness… We were all on the other side of the stage, a little bitter. We were all going, “Wow. We have nothing. We have absolutely nothing”.’
Five-time Emmy winner Bergen’s big break came with sitcom Murphy Brown in 1988.
