Two teenagers charged over death of ‘kind and bright’ 14-year-old boy

A 14 and 15-year-old boy have been charged in connection with the death of Glasgow teenager Amen Teklay, 15.

Amen, an Eritrean refugee, died from fatal injuries on Clarendon Street, Glasgow, at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday evening.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene near St George’s Cross, but the schoolboy could not be saved.

Police Scotland have now said two boys, aged 14 and 15 years old, had been arrested in connection with the death.

The 14-year-old boy has been charged and will appear in Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

Amen’s sister, Delina, 17, told BBC Scotland that her brother was ‘kind and bright’.

‘He was the one I could go and talk to about anything. We grew up together so we were very close. I just think this is a dream and I’m going to wake up tomorrow. I’m still in denial.

‘My dad is devastated, he’s not eating at all or drinking anything. We’re all devastated, it’s shocking.’

The family are originally from Eritrea but have lived in Glasgow for around eight years, the BBC said. Amen had recently gained the ‘right to remain’ in the UK.
