US Sen. Cory Booker Delivers His Longest Senate Speech in Protest of Trump Agenda

Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey made history by delivering the longest speech ever recorded in the U.S. Senate, lasting 25 hours and 4 minutes. Beginning at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, March 31, 2025, and concluding after 8 p.m. on Tuesday,

Booker surpassed the previous record of 24 hours and 18 minutes set by Senator Strom Thurmond in 1957. Unlike Thurmond’s filibuster against civil rights legislation, Booker’s speech was a protest against President Donald Trump’s policies and not tied to blocking a specific measure.

Booker criticized Trump’s administration for actions he described as harmful to democracy, including efforts to eliminate the Department of Education and deport activists. He also addressed issues like healthcare, immigration, and foreign policy while invoking the legacy of civil rights leaders such as John Lewis.

The effort drew praise from Democratic leaders such as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who lauded Booker’s determination as a symbol of resistance against Trump’s agenda.
