The need to cancel a TV licence has become greater with the advancement of technology and availability of various streaming services.

That’s why it comes as no surprise that the SABC TV licence might soon no longer exist. The South African previously reported that South Africans could wave the TV licence goodbye, with the report also revealing that it might be replaced with a levy.

Well, in the meantime, if you wish to part ways with the TV licence sooner rather than later, find the form and other important information you will need below.

HOW TO CANCEL YOUR TV LICENCE?

The SABC website does not provide enough information to those who want to cancel a TV licence. This is one of the main reasons why many have struggled for so long to get rid of their licences.

In an interview with consumer journalist, Wendy Knowler, Cape Talk shared some of the reasons why TV licence cancelation became a nightmare for many. Knowler revealed on the radio show that the lack of sufficient information from the SABC is the root cause of struggles in TV licence cancelation.

According to Knowler, it’s difficult to even find the form required, and other requirements that are supposed to be met.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED IF YOU WANT TO CANCEL YOUR TV LICENCE

On the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page on the SABC TV licence website, the broadcaster briefly stated what you need to do to cancel your TV licence.

“When one has sold or otherwise disposed of one’s television set(s) a TV licence is no longer required. The SABC must be notified on a prescribed form (affidavit) of the changed circumstances. No licence is cancelled while moneys are still outstanding on an account,” it said.

However, there is no information on where to obtain this form and everything else to do. Thankfully, a report by BusinessTech has provided access to this form. It also included other steps required when requesting to cancel. Please find the form below.
