Waqar Younis Slams Pakistan Bowlers for Lack of Discipline After ICC Champions Trophy Loss to India

Waqar Younis, the former Pakistan captain and legendary fast bowler, has criticized Pakistan’s bowlers for their lack of discipline following the team’s six-wicket defeat to India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

This criticism comes after India successfully chased down a 242-run target, securing the top spot in Group A and leaving Pakistan on the brink of elimination.

Speaking at post-match analysis, Younis criticized Pakistan’s inability to defend their total, pointing out that the bowlers strayed from their plans.

“We like batting first. But there weren’t enough runs on the board, and when you don’t score enough, this is what happens,” Younis said.

“You over-try things. There’s a need for discipline in bowling. Indian bowlers were disciplined. We didn’t have enough discipline in our bowling,” he added.

Younis also criticized the team’s lack of intent, highlighting that despite a promising start, Pakistan failed to put India under pressure.

“Babar was playing well, and after his dismissal, Rizwan came in and struck a four off his first ball. The intent was there, and it seemed like we were on track for a strong total. But after that, I have no idea what went wrong—I don’t think anyone does.”

Pakistan’s bowling attack struggled to contain India’s batting lineup, even after Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal. Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 100, his 51st ODI century, led India to a comfortable victory.

The defeat has intensified scrutiny of Pakistan’s performance, with Younis and other former cricketers urging greater discipline and strategic improvements.
