What Orlando Pirates star told Williams via text

The ever-smiling Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng is just as warm off the field of play.

RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG’S MESSAGE TO RONWEN WILLIAMS

Soon before scoring two goals against Williams at the FNB Stadium last week, the 20-year-old Mofokeng sent the Sundowns star a message to check on his injury progress. “The slight injury that I had has done me wonders, and just receiving a message from Rele Mofokeng, of all people, messaging me, saying ‘skips, what’s going on, I see you’re not playing’, it just made me feel so happy,” Williams said via iDiski Times.

“I got goosebump when I saw him send me that message, and yet we were gonna come up against each other in a week’s time,” Williams said about the Orlando Pirates attacker. “So, it [the break] has done me wonders, honestly speaking. It refreshed me, it’s given me time to just sit back, missed a game and hopefully reenergised in this business end that’s coming up for club and country.

“I’m excited and looking forward to the big games coming up now,” Williams concluded.

GILBERTO TO LEAVE ORLANDO PIRATES?

Orlando Pirates are expected to have a new jersey number 11 next season.

The 24-year-old winger joined the Buccaneers on a three-year deal from Angolan giants Petro de Luanda at the start of the season. With just three appearances in the first round of the season, Gilberto was loaned back to Luanda during the January transfer window. According to Soccer Laduma, Orlando Pirates are keen to sell Gilberto back to Luanda when the loan deal ends in June.

WHY MARSHALL MUNETSI MADE IT TO ENGLAND

Orlando Pirates’ former defender-cum-midfielder Marshall Munetsi is playing his football in the English Premier League. What is stopping fellow local players?

“It’s funny I spoke to Marc Van Heerden; he obviously played at Pirates with Munetsi,” Sekhukhune United’s new coach, Eric Tinkler, said, as quoted by KickOff. “Marc told me the mentality that the boy had, he didn’t see Pirates as the pinnacle of his career.

“He just saw Pirates as part of his journey to get into Europe and that has always been his dream and his ideal, to push on and make it in Europe, now he finds himself at Wolves.

“I think sometimes for South African players it’s a lot easier to see Pirates, Chiefs, Sundowns as the pinnacle of their careers and it’s very rare to see players taking the step into Europe from big clubs in South Africa. I think there’s a wrong mentality in some of the youth players, not seeing beyond the big three, not really setting their targets high enough,” Tinkler concluded.

CAPE TOWN CITY ANNOUNCE ROGER DE SA

Cape Town City FC have appointed Orlando Pirates’ former coach Roger De Sa.

Following Muhsin Ertugral’s departure after going 10 games without a win, the Citizens have announced Orlando Pirates’ former tactician De Sa. Surprisingly, De Sa will assist the club’s two existing assistant coaches; Diogo Peral and Lebogang Manyama.

“First team coach Diogo Peral will lead the team until the end of the season, assisted by Lebogang Manyama and Roger De Sa,” the club announced via social media.
