Celtic have a huge task on their hands as they travel to take on Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League knockout play-off tie, having lost the first leg 2-1 in Glasgow.

Former Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise opened the scoring last week before England captain Harry Kane put the visitors two goals ahead at Celtic Park.

However, it was not a thrashing by any means as Daizen Maeda scored 79 minutes into the contest to keep Celtic’s hopes alive as they travel to Germany.

Bayern do not lose at the Allianz very often, beaten just once at home in all competitions this season, in a cup game against Leverkusen.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers knows his team is up against it as they prepare to face Vincent Kompany’s men again, but the tie is very much alive.

Asked if the Bhoys need the performance of their season on Tuesday night, Rodgers said: ‘Yeah, obviously we won’t be the favourites for the tie, but everything is possible. I think the goal that we scored brings a different view of the game totally. Coming in at 2-1 and 2-0 is quite a big difference.

‘But we know that over the two legs, we’d have to play really well to come through.’

Team news

Asked in his pre-match press conference if it is a full squad he has to choose from, Rodgers said: ‘Yeah, everyone is available.’

Bayern are missing Alphonso Davies through injury, while Harry Kane remains a doubt for Tuesday night.

Kompany said of the England captain: ‘It’s nothing bad with Harry, but we’ve not got much time to recover. Sometimes you need an extra day. But we’ll see how Harry feels tomorrow morning. I’m assuming it’s nothing bad. We’ve not had long to recover.’

Joao Palinha has been ill, but is expected to return, with Kompany adding: ‘Joao has been sick. You’ve probably all had someone in your family who’s had flu. That’s what João had. He should be able to be involved, and thankfully we’ve got almost the full squad back.’

The Bayern boss added a warning to Celtic that it will be a very different test for them on their travels.

‘It’s an important game for us and the whole club tomorrow,’ said the Belgian. ‘We’re really good at home. Last week it was Celtic Park, this week it’s the Allianz Arena, in front of our fans.’
