Which Bridget Jones characters would live in which Warwick accommodation?

The experience of living on campus as a fresher is what you would expect the diary of an undergraduate Bridget Jones to look like: Awkward 3 am encounters with the flatmate you see once in a blue moon, questionable hygiene and at least one fire alarm incident in your pyjamas. Ranking and selecting your choices for university accommodation is like Bridget Jones choosing between Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver. You think you know what you want, but only time will tell if you chose the right option. Ultimately though, each character would have their place to stay on campus. So, with my complete and utter lack of authority, here is the accommodation I think each of the Bridget Jones characters would live in — based purely on vibes and no factual backing.

Bridget Jones – Rootes

Rootes is loud, chaotic, and fun. Like with Bridget, you never know what you’re going to get. She is charmingly flawed, self-deprecating and relatable and in each film her arc centres on her messing up continuously and resolving to do better, just like every other fresher after a drunken night out (but particularly the ones who live in one of the many pres-hosting flats in Rootes). You can’t help but find Bridget endearing, and you can’t help but root for her. Her journey is all about self-acceptance, learning from romantic mistakes, and valuing genuine love. You just want to yell at her to make the right choice and succeed, just like you would for the Rootes occupants, who you might see working at 4 am in the kitchen still in their clothes from a night out.

Mark Darcy – Cryfield Apartments

As one of the newer  accommodation blocks, Cryfield Apartments are sleek, modern, and practical. On the higher end of the rent scale, a flat in apartments would be perfect for private school boy Mr. Darcy, especially as five generations of his family have studied at Eton. It’s a quieter accommodation, but it’s not dead. It’s on central campus and has the famous Cryfield Hill that gets overly populated in the summer. It’s suited to someone who values their own space but still needs to be near the action for when they decide to get involved. He’d be the type to keep his space meticulously tidy while quietly judging the state of the kitchen and itching to send a message on the flat group chat to (politely) remind everyone not to leave their dishes on the counter.

Daniel Cleaver – Bluebell

Daniel’s the main antagonist of the film series — he’s just kind of evil. As the priciest accommodation, Daniel would definitely choose Bluebell and would flex it at Neon, Smack, or Snow Circle. Obviously not Kasbah, though — he’d think he was above it. He would absolutely love the fact that it’s Warwick’s most luxurious accommodation. When choosing his accommodation, he would have been debating between Arthur Vick and Bluebell, but ultimately settled on Bluebell, purely because he would have felt like he was too good to haul out his belongings at Easter (even though his mum and dad would have done it for him). Plus, where else would you find Daniel if not in the accommodation where you’re most likely to find the ski-trip-taking and M&S frequenting students?

Jack Qwant– Cryfield Townhouses

Jack was added to the series because Hugh Grant didn’t like the script for the third film, so he didn’t want to return. This seems pretty apt for Jack. In the classic fresher way, someone would ask what accommodation he’s in, he’d reply “Cryfield”, which would result in the “apartments or standard” conversation and he’d answer “Townhouse”, and then be met with a confused, questioning look. His lack of a deep emotional connection with Bridget makes Mark a better fit for her, and pretty much the same can be said for Townhouses, since it’s 12 people to a townhouse, the flats can’t mix as easily as they do in other accommodations, and the kitchen is painted a blinding orange colour.

Roxster – Tocil

I’ve not had the privilege to watch the new movie yet, but I do think Leo Woodall’s character would be in Tocil. It gets a bad rep, but it’s really not as bad as people make it out to be. It’s in a good location, the rooms are fairly big, and the kitchen could be worse. The main downside is the rats (and it’s a fairly big downside). downside is the rats (and it’s a fairly big downside). He and Bridget have an age gap romance, so the risk is just having something fun over something permanent – much like the risk you take picking Tocil.
