Bafana Bafana is on the brink of World Cup qualification – but there’s still work to do.
Hugo Broos’ side sits second in Group C, level on points with leaders Rwanda and Benin, who, alongside straggler’s Nigeria, can upset Bafana’s World Cup pursuit.
Aside from the 2010 World Cup, which granted South Africa automatic qualification, Mzansi hasn’t featured on soccer’s biggest stage since 2002.
The array of talent in the Bafana camp is exponentially greater than four years ago, suggesting that this is their best chance of a World Cup spot in over two decades.

Broos on Mofokeng
Orlando Pirates starlet Relebohile Mofokeng is one of Bafana’s most exciting prospects, a player that is able to, through his innate ability and skill, to create chances from all angles of the pitch.
National coach Broos believes this will be his last season in South Africa, saying, “talking about Mofokeng, I just hope that he makes the right decisions. And that he is not going to a team where he won’t play,
“I see all the things around, Barcelona and Rangers and… (sighs) I’m a little bit afraid. I just hope that the people around make the choice of the best sportive solution and not the best financial solution.”
“Okay, I think his parents want the best for him, that’s for sure. But there is another guy who wants to win a lot of money also, but that’s the problem. But ok, let’s hope, maybe I talked too soon about that,
“We’ll see. I think in June, Rele will not be a player of Orlando Pirates anymore, but a good choice is very important.”
